Art Hooker was a quirky, imaginative child, embracing art and culture from a very young age. After learning that his late great-uncle was the Grammy award winning blues legend John Lee Hooker, Art realized that artistic trailblazing was in his blood and decided to follow his dream of living a purposeful and creative life.

Early on, Art discovered his passion for creative writing. In high school, after winning a city-wide quill and scroll writing award, he realized his gift for designing truthful, engaging stories. He decided then that he would use his talents to inspire people through telling stories in the way that John Lee did with his heartfelt music.

Art later went on to win several local and regional awards for his work as a writer and director in the theater. While working in the theater, he had the opportunity to give talks to arts and community organizations about the creative process. It was then that he honed his skill as a speaker. He became a global lecturer for Citi Group, leading innovative learning initiatives around the world for 2 years.

While in India on assignment, Art discovered that the perfect compliment to his skills as a writer, director, and lecturer was film making. He explored this career path further by producing the super 35mm feature “Borland”, which premiered at the Dallas AFI film festival. Following Borland, Art co-wrote and directed the comedy short “Stalkers Dating Guide” which screened in several festivals. “Stalkers” won awards for Best Comedy screenplay and best produced screenplay In the Action on Film festival in Pasadena. Later, Art produced the short film Platonic Bomb where he received a nomination for Best Film at the Texas Black Film Festival. He is now directing and producing his current documentary film “Unashamed”.

Art’s creative studio “New Metropolitan” is currently wrapping up the production of a transmedia project about movements, creativity, passion and race called "LIver Your Verse". Additionally, the studio is in the last stages of production on a project that explores poverty in America called Options Together.

In addition to filmmaking, Art is in the process of writing the account of his search for global creativity passion and movements from his travels across Asia, Africa, Europe, the Middle East and America. Art lives in Texas with his beautiful wife Natasha and their two daughter Khloe and Kaitlin.
