Captivating

Captivating

"Captivating" is a song based of the idea of King David presenting himself as a conquered King. David danced naked in the streets of Jerusalem while his army followed bringing the ark of the covenant back into the city. In this moment, David was actually reenacting the ancient tradition of conquered kings being marched naked back into the city they once ruled, with the conquering army behind them. The ark of the covenant represented the presence of God, and David was making a statement that he had been conquered by it. There is a beauty and freedom in being conquered by the love of God." (Chase Wagner)

"As followers of Jesus, not only must we celebrate the discipline of fasting, but we must also celebrate the discipline of feasting. Our worship should be comprised of songs of mourning AND dancing, tears AND triumph. Philippians 4:4 instructs us to “rejoice in the Lord always.” Therefore, through the vicissitudes of life, one thing should remain constant: our joy. Paul even instructs us to rejoice in our sufferings (Romans 5:3). Jesus exemplified this as he endured the cross for the joy that was set before him (Hebrews 12:2). Too often, we have attached our surrender to sadness. Surrender can, no doubt, be painful as we let go of illusions, fears and dreams. However, true surrender to Jesus, ironically and beautifully, leads to freedom. Those who lose their lives for the sake of Christ will somehow find it (Matthew 16:25). We try so hard to fight off the persistent Love of God, but it is too strong for us to war against. The tower of our pride has fallen. Love has won and now he’s taking over. Oh, what a mystery! This beautiful defeat! Our God is captivating!" (Micah Massey)

It’s captivating
