Leaning

Leaning

"I remember watching the movie "True Grit" a few years ago. The score took me back to my childhood as I recalled a familiar melody I heard in church. I searched for the song and came across the old Elisha Hoffman hymn "Leaning On The Everlasting Arms." I remember singing the song in church and thinking it was so beautiful and melancholy.
A year or so ago, I was tasked to rewrite a hymn melody as part of one of the assignments we walk the students through in Track 1 of our 10000 Fathers Worship School. I wanted to write and arrange the melody and music around a more joyful expression of the hymn. After all, trusting in God's heart and timing is much more beautiful and joyful than leaning on our own.
It was fun to lead it with the students as part of a recent 10000 Fathers live recording." (David Walker)

VERSE
What a fellowship, what a joy divine
Leaning on the everlasting arms
What a blessedness, what a peace is mine
Leaning on the everlasting arms

CHORUS
I’m leaning, leaning
Safe and secure from all alarms
I’m leaning, leaning
Leaning on the everlasting arms

VERSE 2
Oh how sweet to walk in this pilgrim way
Leaning on the everlasting arms
Oh how bright the path grows from day to day
Leaning on the everlasting arms

VERSE 3
What have I to dread, what have I to fear
Leaning on the everlasting arms?
I have perfect peace with my Lord so near
Leaning on the everlasting arms
