We Exalt You, Jesus

We Exalt You, Jesus

"This song was written with my four year old son. He was walking around the house one day singing the chorus "We exalt you, Jesus…". I will never forget the conversation. I asked him where that was from and he responded: "I made it up in my mind, Dad!" We spent the next few months singing it together at bedtime, finishing the chorus. I would try things and ask what he thought - "no dad, that's not long enough…" or "that's not right yet". We finally landed on the completion of the chorus together. I had written the bridge previously, but we agreed that it was a perfect counterpart to the simple chorus. This song has taken root in my heart, our family and our church.

It serves as a reminder that no one is ever too young to be used by God. To have led this song in our church, which is four generations worshipping together, written by someone before he learned to read is a staggering reality. There is a simplicity and a purity to this song that has taken our church by storm. Our prayer is that this cry of a four year old little boy will grip hearts towards a greater love of Jesus."
