VERSE 1
"Father forgive" the savior said
"They know not what they do"
His heart was moved when thus he prayed
For me, my friends, for you
He saw that as they mocked, abused
And crucified his flesh
So he, by us, would be refused
And crucified afresh
Through love of sin, we long, we’re prone
To act as Satan did
But now, with grief and shame we own
We knew not what we did

VERSE 2
We knew not what a law we broke
How holy, just and pure
Nor what a God we had provoked
But thought ourselves secure
We knew not what we earned in sin
Nor whom we thus defied
Nor where our guilty souls had been
If Jesus had not died
Through love of sin, we long, we’re prone
To act as Satan did
But now, with grief and shame we own
We knew not what we did

CHORUS
Jesus all our guilt foresaw
He satisfied the holy law
He shed his precious blood for us
To make our peace with God

VERSE 3
I knew not what I did, indeed
When I was blind to thee
My sin, dear savior, made thee bleed
Yet you still prayed for me
You still prayed for me
