He Is Given

He Is Given

"As a father, it is difficult to read the story of Abraham and Isaac ascending the mountain together. In particular, the innocence of the question "Where is the sacrifice?" points to the vulnerability of this moment between the two of them. 'He is given" is a song about that moment. The song begins 'Here is the fire and wood, but where is the sacrifice?'" (Isaac Wardell)

Here is the fire and the wood
But where is the sacrifice?
Here, in the flames of our sin
He will himself provide
He is given, he is given
He is given, he is given

Here is the King of the Jews
But what is this mournful sight?
Here, see the shame of our sin
Flow from his pierced side
He is stricken, he is stricken
He is stricken, he is stricken

Here is the stone from the tomb
But where does his body lie
Here he has conquered our sin
And has gone up on high
He is risen, he is risen
He is risen, he is risen
Alleluia, Alleluia
Alleluia, Alleluia
