My First Name

”I brought the first line of the chorus to Brandon and Emily that day, nervous with my nylon strings and high frail singing. I’m glad I did. We filled the song with meaningful poetry and coaxed forth some beautiful melodies; it was exhilarating to watch it take shape. My collaborators easily took the song to places that I’d found hard to access on my own. Brittany came in in later weeks to fill holes and make the song into something really special. (Kevin Dailey)

“I believe this song means something different to all of us who wrote it and will listen. For me personally, it's a song of longing. I have a deep longing in my heart for heaven, a deep longing for home. We can create atmospheres that could very well be heaven right here on earth, but those experinces can be fragile. I long for my permanent residence, my spiritual home. I don't think this longing is bad whatsoever. I actually believe it pushes me to live a full life here and now and create the best heaven on earth I possibly can.” (Emily Brimlow)

"In Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, for all of you, who were baptized into Christ, have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. (Galatians 3:26-28) Truly the dream is one that is shared by our creator. Equality is the dream of heaven and earth realized! That everyone is known and seen.” (Brandon Hampton)

“The beauty of rainbows is every color shown.” This song shines a bright light on the need for friends, community, inclusion and meaningful relationships. It makes space for the courage to say that you’re looking for home when you can't seem to find your place in the world around you.” (Brittney Spencer)
