Only Hope

Only Hope

"Only Hope was written out of a desire to confess the completeness of our need for God. As individuals and communities we often find ourselves hedging our bets; recognizing our neediness in some areas and crying out to the Father, yet working like mad to sustain and provide and protect ourselves in a thousand other ways. Aaron and I wrote this to remind ourselves, and the church, that we bring nothing to the table; no mechanism to save ourselves, no strength to endure, no ability to satisfy true desire. Hopefully, it is a glad cry of our desperate need, and the real hope found in God alone." (Dane Joneshill)

When I am shaken, you are unfailing
When I’m afraid, you’re the arms that hold me
And when my heart hurts, you offer soft words
You’re right next to me when I’m lonely

When I am so lost, you are my north star
You come and captain me in these waters
When I am falling down, I can reach out
You come and pick me up like a father

All my questions
Are answered in your presence
When I cannot reach you, you reach for me
When I run, you pursue me
You restore my soul, you renew me
You are my one and only hope

I was reluctant, you were relentless
I stood with ashes in my hand
You came to save me, to recreate me
Call me beautiful and name me friend

There’s no other name
By which I am saved
You are God alone
You’re my only hope
