"A few years ago, I set a goal for myself: to write a song for every book of the Bible in one year. By the end of that year, an album had begun to take shape... one that would hopefully tell God’s Story of redemption, from creation to Jesus’ return. After the songs for the album were basically set, I read Forgotten God by Francis Chan and began to study the book of Acts with my church. I was reminded of how integral the Spirit was to the early church, and how integral it should be to me. And yet, I too often put the Holy Spirit on the periphery.As I thought about the Spirit’s role in God’s Story, I realized with sadness that not one of my songs explicitly mentioned the Holy Spirit. Here was an album that attempted to tell God’s Story of redemption, yet the Spirit was only implied. I wanted to change this and prayed that a song would come.
I sat down with Acts 1 and 2 and, thankfully, the song “Breath of God” came quickly. Although I never intended to write a congregational worship song, this song is exactly that... When the disciples were filled with the Spirit at Pentecost, they went out from their hiding place and spoke of God’s “mighty works” that he had accomplished through Jesus. This song begs the Spirit to fill us that we may praise God and speak of him with power to those that do not yet know of his good news." (Caroline Cobb)
