Salt
Salt
“I’m not a songwriter”.
I’ve said these words a lot in the last few years. As a drummer, I’ve found myself surrounded by song writers and worship leaders my whole life. I have always existed in musical environments as the “backbeat”. Supporting others’ songs and vision is something I’ve grown accustomed to.
It wasn’t until recently that I started to see myself as more than just a drummer. My new project, “Salt”, is me trying my hand for the first time at creating something beautiful with MANY limitations.
Salt is useful for a lot of things. I live in the Midwest where, on any given morning in the winter, you go outside to find that your car is unfortunately stuck in ice. One tactic is buying a huge, ten-pound bag of road salt to sprinkle on the road, driveway, stairs, and everywhere else you can think of. It’s a pretty effective tool to get back on the road. Similarly, “Salt” is my answer to feeling stuck. It’s my way of beginning to see myself as someone who can and should contribute to a conversation that for years I’ve longed to have some sort of voice in, more than just holding down the 2 and 4.
