Family Of Orgs
Common People
Common People is the parent company of our family of orgs that includes Commonwealth, Common Exchange and Common Hymnal. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we discover, develop, connect and organize marginalized creators - especially songwriters, musicians and storytellers - within a socially conscious ecosystem that generates and amplifies transformative underground art for a global audience.
We rely on philanthropic support to help offset the substantial behind-the-scenes costs, enabling us to expand opportunities for underrepresented artists and ensure the ongoing sustainability and impact of our work. If you would like to support us, please select Email Us under the Connect menu.
Commonwealth
Commonwealth is the DBA for our storytelling work. This includes collaborative partnerships with organizations that ask us to help them put their stories to music, as well as our own initiatives on behalf of systemically overlooked communities where we uncover unheard narratives and bring them to life through song.
Once again, we depend on philanthropic support to document these stories with dignity, share them widely, and uplift communities whose histories have too often been ignored or erased.
Common Exchange
Common Exchange is the record label within the Common People ecosystem. We produce audio and video content, distribute it across digital platforms, and return value to the artists and communities that create it.
Common Exchange is structured as a single-member LLC, wholly owned by - and fully integrated with - Common People.
Common Hymnal
Under Common Exchange, our DBA Common Hymnal manages all song copyrights written within our shared space, ensuring participants’ creative output is protected, properly administered, and positioned for lasting impact.
Common Hymnal was the first imprint in this ever growing constellation, born to platform songs, stories and ideas from the spiritual underground. That legacy continues and our Christian-facing efforts still carry the Common Hymnal name.
