Rise
Rise
”Three things come to mind when I think of inspiration for this song: personal unrest, reckoning with identity, and hopes for the future. When Jason and I sat down during the Common Hymnal mini camp we were both wresting with the reality that our black musical roots were often not reflected in multi-ethnic and predominately white worship spaces. This song became a vehicle to work out these tensions in a way that would inspire others to Rise in the dignity of identity secured by Jesus and worship passionately despite daily challenges.” (Justin Gray)
