Hallelujah, God Be Praised

Hallelujah, God Be Praised

Sung by Nicole Serrano

"This song began with simply sitting at the piano singing the chorus "Hallelujah...". It sparked a conversation for us about what the word Hallelujah actually means. Sure, we sing and say it a lot in the church, but practically, the word simply means "God Be Praised." We began to talk about this simple question: what does it look like for us to be able to say with certainty, Hallelujah, God be praised in EVERY season and circumstance.

I remember as we were writing the song there was a phrase I couldn't shake in the verse "...His words are peace to those who mourn...". It was something I just knew needed to be there but didn't fully understand it until the day we first introduced the song at our church. The Sunday morning we had planned to introduce this song for the first time was the same Sunday morning my phone range at 4am with news that one of our pastors had died unexpectedly from a heart attack. That morning to be able to lead our church in singing "His words are peace to those who morn... we sing Hallelujah, God be praised" is a memory forever etched in the chambers of my mind." VERSE 1
I have come to see the king
The healer of the broken things
The God who speaks into the storm
His words are peace for those who mourn
And, when I see him, I will sing
God be praised

VERSE 1
I’m broken down, with battle scars
I need his love to mend this heart
That he would breath into my lungs
And give me hope where I have none
And with the church, now, I will sing
God be praised, be praised

CHORUS
Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah
O God be praised, God be praised

VERSE 3
We have come to see the king
To offer him our everything
To lay our lives down at his feet
Surrounded by his majesty
And, with the angels, we will sing
God be praised, God be praised

BRIDGE
You are great, worthy of praise
We're lifting up your name, Jesus
You are great, worthy of praise
We're lifting up your name
