To this year or next
But to the children
And those who are like them
Not praying for fatter wallets
Or thinner bodies
But to be kinder souls
Even unto themselves
The Kingdom of God does not arrive
Through personal victories
Or political elections
But through the sowing of tears
For George and Breonna
And Ahmaud and Andre
And the names you forgot
Or never heard
The Kingdom of God does not reside
In a Wall Street high-rise
Where the invisible hand
Of the market is sovereign
But where rent checks are missed
Where work has been lost
And dreams have been buried
In the darkness of soil
The Kingdom of God does not breakthrough
In slick online services
With video transitions
And auto-tuned voices
But around tables and fires
Sharing whiskey and wine
In the songs of endurance
And the reaping of joy
