Love Is Not Safe

Love Is Not Safe

Love is not safe.
It is not a strategy.
It is not reserved for the deserving.

Love is risk.
Risk on the unproven.
Risk on the ones with wreckage in their wake.
Risk on those who may never pay it back,
who may stumble again tomorrow.

Love wagers on potential still hidden,
on beauty not yet visible,
on stories half-written,
on names still dragged through the dust.

It is a courageous leap
into relationships that may not reward,
into faithfulness that may go unnoticed,
into mercy that may be misunderstood.

Love gets its hands dirty.
It embraces both the crown of joy
and the ache of disappointment.
It shows up knowing full well
that heartbreak is not only possible—
it’s probable.

But still, it stays.

Because love is not about managing outcomes.
It is about seeing someone
as more than their failure.
It is about defying fear,
daring to believe in redemption,
and choosing presence over protection.

The rewards?
Sometimes glorious:
Lives transformed.
Chains broken.
Hearts made whole.

Other times?
Embarrassing:
Trust betrayed.
Grace trampled.
Hope left hanging.

But love doesn’t wait for guarantees.
It takes the risk anyway.
Because that’s what God did with us.
