Wildflower
Wildflower
Written as part of our work with Christians for Social Action, “Wildflower” was created with Jennifer Henderson and Noah Guthrie of A Rocha. Drawing on images of forests, gardens, and wildfire flowers, the song reflects God’s work of renewal through creation and the quiet faithfulness of those who care for it.

VERSE 1
There's a flower in Texas
That waits for the wildfires to burn
And it lies in the dirt
Til the earth calls for it to return
And it holds fast to the truth it's always known
The resting, the waking, the blooming’s ingrained
Oh, how many things have been made in this way
God only knows
God only knows
VERSE 2
There’s a gardener devoted
To nurture and nourish the land
Both beauty and bounty spring forth
Through the work of their hands
They hold fast to hope, that they’re not alone
The sowing, the reaping, the work never ends
How many others are toiling like them
God only knows
God only knows
CHORUS 1
Are you astonished? Are you dismayed?
When all of creation groans for love to come our way
Jesus, the healer, we are your hands
Planting the gospel all across your hallowed land
VERSE 3
There's a Spirit still moving
Through forests, and rivers, and skies
Breathing life into ashes
And lifting the weary to rise
And it holds to hearts that call out in faith
The guiding, the keeping, the strength when we break
All of the things that are being sustained
God only knows
God only knows
CHORUS 2
Are you astonished? Are you dismayed?
When all of creation groans for love to come our way
Spirit, sustainer, breathe in our lungs
Strength for the weary until all your work is done
