Time & Place (Yuri's Song)
Time & Place (Yuri's Song)
Yuri Kochiyama was a Japanese American activist whose lifelong pursuit of justice was shaped by the internment camps of World War II. It is a story Christians for Social Action has chosen to lift up, and it carries a particular weight for its executive director, Nikki Toyama-Szeto, who is a distant relative of Yuri’s, though one who holds her close. For Nikki, an Asian American woman, this is more than history she admires. It is a story close to home, and one she is proud to tell. She is among the writers of this song, and you can hear that in it. Some stories you admire from afar, and some you sing from inside.

VERSE 1
Gb Gbaug
What do I do with my strength?
Ebm/Gb Gbaug
It doesn’t look like what they say it’s supposed to
Gb Gbaug
What do I do with my pain?
Ebm/Gb Gb7
Don’t want to hold it like how they say I should
PRECHORUS 1
B
I feel alone in the wild
Gb/Bb
Been a lonesome ride
B Bm
Oh God, is there a time and place for me?
VERSE 2
Gb Gbaug
How do I hold how they see me?
Ebm/Gb Gbaug
If I question, am I threatening?
Gb Gbaug
But should their cares be my worry?
Ebm/Gb Gb7
‘Cause this quiets turning deafening
PRECHORUS 2
B
Like the roll of a wave
Gb/Bb
This form cannot stay
B
Like the tide coming in
Gb/Bb
I try again and again

Oh God, is there a time and place for me?

The creed is this
To live a life without losing faith in God
What type of person I was, am, or become
I hope to live by this one creed
That which not I alone but all others formulated for me
I say others because I’m only part of all I have met
To never break one link of friendship
To never humiliate or look down on any person or group,
But rather to respect
To always keep in mind that any opportunities I have had
I owe to someone else
To be grateful for whatever has come my way
Through the aid of another
Dear heavenly father, help me live it
BRIDGE
Ab7
Drowning in oceans deep
B
Here my lungs learned to breathe
Ab7 B Db
(Stand) Where the ground doesn’t touch my feet
Ab7
Starting to see You through blurry eyes
B
Holding my history
Ebm Db Ab/C
You turned my tears into guiding lights
B
I hear you say
Bm Gb/Bb Ab7
There’s a time and place for me
B
I hear you say
Bm
There’s time and place for me

Added a new African Reimagining of The Kingdom Is Yours, bringing the Beatitudes closer to where Jesus first spoke them.
In the same way that “The Kingdom Is Yours” massaged out the ideas in the Beatitudes, so this song explores Ecclesiastes 3.
In this season of difficult circumstances, unjust situations, and overwhelming disappointments our hope is summed up in this song: God Will Prevail.
Resistance is not just struggle—it is also song. It is dancing in the ruins, laughing in the face of despair, and choosing joy as an act of defiance.
Just as “The Kingdom Is Yours” massaged out the ideas in the Beatitudes, so this song explores The Lord's Prayer.
Last year we released "Mothers And Shepherds", which has the gravitas of a Christmas classic. This year we wanted to switch it up with a lighthearted bop.
A Christmas song that forces hope, disaster and pursuit to meet on a painful, yet dauntingly beautiful path that exposes how much we’ve always needed a savior.
